The Best and Worst of the Detroit Lions American Football Team
The Detroit Lions are a professional American football team based in Detroit, Michigan. The Lions compete in the National Football League as part of the National Football Conference North Division. The team plays their home games at Ford Field in Downtown Detroit and has done so since 2002 after leaving Tiger Stadium, their previous home from 1938–1955 and 1995–2002, where they had played since their inception in 1930. Best – The Fans
The Detroit Lions have one of the best fan bases in all of the professional sports. With a population that is as loyal as they come, it’s no surprise that Ford Field is often sold out on the game day. One thing that sets this team apart from others is that its fans are not only loyal to their team but also to each other. It’s not uncommon to see Detroiters at a tailgate before or after a game talking about everything from sports to politics with people they may never have met before. The best part about being a Detroit Lions fan? Experiencing firsthand what it means when everyone comes together for one cause: To cheer on our beloved hometown team!

Best – The Coaches
Lions coaches are among the best in their field, with a great mix of experience and youth. Head Coach Jim Caldwell has done an amazing job with this team, more than anyone could have expected. Assistant Head Coach Teryl Austin is one of the most underrated defensive coordinators in football, as is special teams coordinator Joe Marciano. Wide receivers coach Robert Prince has a knack for developing rookies into productive players. Linebackers coach Bill Sheridan was at Penn State when they won two national championships. Quarterbacks coach Brian Callahan is young but has NFL experience with stints in Oakland, Arizona, and Tampa Bay.
Worst – The Weather
It’s difficult to be on a professional football team when you’re playing in one of the coldest climates in America. The Detroit Lions have had to endure some of the most extreme snowstorms, ice storms, blizzards, and winter storms in recent history. The snow has been especially brutal this year with games canceled due to not being able to clear the field. It’s hard enough trying to play football on a frozen field with normal conditions- but it becomes nearly impossible when you’ve got an inch or two of snow covering your turf.
Worst – The Record
The Detroit Lions are an American football team based in Detroit, Michigan. The team plays its home games at Ford Field in Downtown Detroit. They have won four NFL Championships and one Super Bowl, but they have had a rough stretch over the last couple of years. In 2011 they ended up with a record of 4-12, making them the first NFL team to go winless since the 2008 Miami Dolphins. The 2013 season was not much better; they finished with a record of 7-9 and were ranked 24th out of 32 teams in points scored per game (19 points). It was also during this season that head coach Jim Schwartz was fired after only five seasons as head coach.
Final Thoughts
If you’re a fan of American football, then there’s no better time than now to get behind your favorite team. The Detroit Lions are out to prove they are one of the best teams in the league. They have some talented players with a lot to prove this season. It’s going to be exciting to see how these games play out and what new records they can set!
