Should You Enroll Your Child in a Private Boarding School?

by Forbes Magazine April 14, 2022 0 Comment

In the US, approximately 10% of students, about 5 million, attend private schools. This is in comparison to the whopping 50 million who are in US public schools.

Yet, there are many who might say they aren’t quite satisfied with their public school experience. Have you ever wondered about the benefits of boarding school for your child?

Do you wonder if your child would benefit or even be the right fit for a private boarding school? Read on to learn about both the opportunities and benefits to consider when your child attends boarding school.

 Public School Frustrations

There are some kids who find the one size fits all approach of a public school very frustrating. The pandemic seems to have amplified many of those issues for some kids.

Your child might feel frustrated by the pace of learning or even the lack of independence in their learning.

Your child may have a passion that they want to spend more time focused on through school. If they love the arts or sports, attending a boarding school will give them more time for this passion. They can also be around other students more intensively who share their passion.

Academic Opportunities

A private boarding school can offer a more varied, higher-level academic experience. They don’t need to cater to the masses. Because they have smaller classes with more attention from the academic leaders, there are more opportunities to learn more challenging material.

The academics can also be more specialized. Your child can become fluent in another language, focus on the arts, and even be prepared for university earlier than a public school student.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Unlike a public school, a private boarding school can nurture the whole child. They can provide unique opportunities for growth so students truly grow into well-rounded humans.

Students can pursue a plethora of athletics from fencing, tennis, and lacrosse, to yoga, dance, or horseback riding.

If art is their passion, they can pursue theater, painting, sculpture, or a variety of musical opportunities.

Create a Wide Network for Life

There’s real value for children to meet, spend time with and learn from others who are different from them. At a private boarding school, your child will meet other students from all over the globe.

They will not only learn and experience people from different walks of life and cultures, but they’ll make lifelong friends. Your boarding school friends become like your family away from home.

The network of friendships and connections your child will make can open doors for them later on as they leave school too.

Private Boarding School, Is It Right for Your Child?

Private boarding school creates a wide range of opportunities for an independent child. Not all kids are ready to leave and live away from home. But the opportunities they experience make living away from home worth it.
