Legend says that honey was Cleopatra’s favourite weapon in her beauty arsenal, and now science is catching up with what many women have known for years. Honey, especially in the raw or unpasteurized form, is an incredibly effective and natural ingredient to use on the skin. It’s full of antioxidants that are very effective for wrinkles and ageing skin. It is antibacterial and helps treat and prevent acne and clarifies the skin by opening and clogging the pores. It’s also a great moisturizer that soothes irritation, blemishes, and leaves a nice shine.
Following is the list of tips recipes for an effective home spa, skin treatment.
1.Use Moisturizing Honey Mask
Pull back your hair from your face before starting any of these skincare recipes, as honey is highly sticky. Your face should be clean and smooth. You may also like to wash your face before starting any facial treatment.
- i) Take a generous spoon of honey in your hand and spread it all over your face. Rub it on your skin and leave it on for 5 to 30 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water.
- ii) Combine 1 tablespoon of buttermilk, 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 egg yolk. Apply to cleansed skin and leave on for about 15-20 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water.
2. Honey Facial Cleanser
Honey is good for dissolving makeup residue, especially when mixed with a mild oil. Combine honey and jojoba OR coconut oil for an easily spreadable texture. Rub it on your skin, avoiding the eye area to loosen the makeup and clog pores. Rinse with lukewarm water.

3. Use Honey and Almonds as Your Body Scrub
The texture of ground almonds exfoliates the skin, while almonds and honey provide moisture. Combine 2 tablespoons of ground almonds and 2 tablespoon honey into a paste. Rub it on your face in a circular motion. Rinse with lukewarm water. You can easily increase the amounts to treat your whole body.
Use this scrub once a week to smooth and brighten your skin. Mix 2 parts honey with 1 part baking soda and rub it on your face. It’s also good for a full-body scrub.
4. Honey Skin Lotion
If you feel like dry skin is coming in winter, mix a tablespoon of honey with a teaspoon of olive oil and a dash of lemon juice (a natural skin lightener). Apply this lotion to dry areas and leave for 20 minutes. Clean with a warm cloth.
5. Lemon Honey Facial
It’s a fun game that is a little different. I found it on a DIY Natural Beauty blog. They also contain alpha-hydroxy acids that peel off. Put 1 teaspoon of honey in one of the lemon halves. Rub the cut side of the lemon all over your face. Let rest for 5 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water.
6. Rinse with Honey to Increase Hair Shine
There are two possibilities. 1) Mix one tablespoon of honey with one litre of lukewarm water. Rinse your hair for about 2 minutes after washing. Let it condition for an hour, then rinse it off. 2) Mix 1 1/2 teaspoons of honey with 5 cups of lukewarm water. Rinse your hair and let it act. Blow-dry and style as usual.
7. Cleopatra’s Milk and Honey Bath
Mix 1⁄4 cup of honey with 2 cups of milk and a few drops of essential oil. Add it to a hot bath, sit back and relax.
